Throughout my teaching career, I have tried many types of Mother’s day gift craft ideas.   I used to feel obligated to have the children create elaborate mothers day crafts.    I would find thinking up mothers day gift craft ideas to be stressful and oftentimes the project would end up being more stress than joy for all involved! Through trial and error, I have found that less is more!

When I became a mother, myself, I realized that the Mothers Day crafts that could freeze time were the ones I cherished most! That DIY mothers day footprint of my son as an infant, the mothers day drawing ideas, and any mothers day ideas with pictures of my son are still near and dear to my heart!

Let’s take a look at 5 mothers day gift craft ideas that Mom will surely treasure!

1 . Mother’s Day ideas with pictures

Mother’s day kiss: Mom will love a craft created with their child’s picture!   Have the child pose as if blowing a kiss, print the picture, cut out the child’s picture and paste it on yellow paper. Cut out hearts and glue them as if the child is blowing on them.  If the child is older, they can write things they love about Mom in their hearts!

Picture in a mug:  Our dollar store or local craft store often has mugs that you can decorate or insert a picture of the child.

Both of these DIY mom gifts would be the perfect things to make for Mother’s day tea or someone special celebrations!

2. Card for mother’s day handmade fun!

The only thing better than DIY Mother’s Day craft is a card for Mother’s Day handmade by the child!

Kids love to trace their hands and create all types of animals! Mothers day craft ideas that incorporate the child’s hands are sure to please. My kids had a blast creating cards with fish, octopus, or flower hand tracings.

Another idea is to give the children stamps and stickers to use to create their cards.

I like to provide the students with the option to create a coupon to give to Mom as well!

Coupon templates and clip art can be found here if you would like to create your own!

A favorite Mother’s Day Craft for Kindergarten!

This is one of my favorite Mother’s Day gifts to make each year with my Kindergarten kids! It is amazing to see how creative they are!

I give them a  template of a face and necklace.  I have them close their eyes and picture their mom, grandma, or aunt.  They use multicultural crayons to draw the skin color and neon crayons to color the necklace and dress. This is done in small groups so that I can guide them and remind them to do their best coloring.

The next day we talk about the parts of the face as a whole group.  We talk about how to put the eyes, and eyelashes on the face. then show them how to cut or tear the construction paper for hair.  I place steps of brown, black, red, and yellow paper at the tables……and let them go! The results are amazing!

I choose a writing prompt for the children to use and pull them up in small groups to write!     Each year this craft is unique and special/ When complete, this is a gift that will be treasured for years!!

Having a variety of prompts to choose from makes this activity feel like a new project each year!

5. Mother’s Day Songs

When you run out of ideas of things to make for mother’s day, sing a song!

There is nothing cuter than kids putting on a show for their special someone!  Everyone loves a poem or song to commemorate the day!

The traditional mothers day tea has been replaced by the Someone Special party for our class.  The children love to create invitations and learn songs for the day
